I'm custom building my own shower pan and I've green board to the beginning floor. Should I cut out the green board and to install the 2x6 around the perimiter of the pan mud? There is ICU (Insulated Concrete Forms) in back of the green board. I'm concerned about the wall having a area sticking out where the pan pvc liner goes. It's supposed to go up 6" on all sides. I want a flat area going to the floor where the tile meets, I don't want to have add yet another layer of wall (1/4" hardibacker)just get flush the protruding pvc liner. bjr

I am not sure about the question your asking but I wouldn't use green board. I would use concrete board instead. i have had water enter through the tile joints and ruined the green board

There is multiple layers in building up a shower pan. I'm concerned the pvc liner will make a bulge on the wall and I'll have build up the wall to get over the bulge were the liner gets nailed on. The green board gets a something B6000 rubberized coating waterproofing($135 for 3 gal. bucket) before the tile. I'm not sure how the tiles suppose to stick to a rubberzed waterproofing? Just trying to follow all the expert advice from the tile stores. I suppose I'll have chizzle out the foam ICF and build back in with 2x6 and some 3/4" plywood so's the wall surface will able to take the tile straight to the shower floor. bjr

I am in the midwest. Here we pan the floor and build up the floor slope out of mud. The concrete board goes down the walls over the pan. It is pretty simple. That way the tile on the floor is on mud and the walls are stuck to concrete board. My part is to make the pan out of sheet lead. It is about .60 thick.
