BX2200
I was just wondering if anyone made one that would work on a BX. I seen another post in owning and operating were someon posted a pic of a small tractor with one on it . They were mowing a bank simmilar to one i have on my property . I fig they would be too expensive for me right now but im still curious.

That was probably a shot of my 856 Wheelhorse w/a 50" sicklebar. It's unusual in that it is mid mounted and driven off of the 8hp engine via a series of pulley's.

Most all sicklebars are made for mounting to the 3PH and driven off of the PTO which the BX has so presumably one would only need to find a smaller BX sized one. Unfortunately thats alot easier said than done.
I've not seen a smaller SubCUT version offered but perhaps theres some out there.

I'd be interested also.
Good luck

If you chained the JD to the 856 Wheelhorse, which would pull the other away?

Haban used to make mid mount sickle bar mowers (until they went out of business about 4 years ago). I have one for my Sears SS16. It is a complex mount (frame at front and rear), and I don't know if it is possible to modify it for the BXs (of course now you've got me thinking - which is a dangerous thing). The sickle bar was 40" long.

Here are some pictures of one on a John Deere 430 Garden Tractor:

Can't find anything new that is shorter than 5'.

Befco makes a 5' sickle bar mower:

Koshco makes a PTO powered string trimmer (interesting):

I have around 400' of bank i need to maintain. when i was a kid i would do it with a mowing sith or how ever you spell it /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif then Dad brought home a fancy weed eater that was nice . i moved away for awhile and didnt have too worry about it . now i moved back home and inherited the job again. the kids around here want coal miner wages too cut weeds, and after a back opearation im not able to swing a weed eater too much . i need to come up with a easy way to take care of the banks. I seen one site were the sikle bars mowers were over $2000. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I was hopeing to get a backhoe soon but if i could find a mower that would work it might have to wait

It would be an interesting pull, a 23hp hydro vs an 8hp gear. Hummmm, since the green tractor didn;t come with hi/lo I'd say the little red 'un would put up a good fight /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Unfortunately it'll never be as I sold the green when I bought the orange and old red don't care cause it just goes on and does it's thing, just like it's done for over 39 yrs now! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The sicklebar mower does a pretty good job of the bank also..

I had a JD N0. 5 sickle bar mower, I brought it to a FFA consignment auction a couple of years ago and got my 50 bucks back out of it. Of course I should have kept it and converted it to mount on a three point (which would be easy to do.) Look around and you just might find an affordable solution.

You know, we had two JD sickle bar mowers on the farm where I grew up that we used to mow the hayfields. They attached to the rear of the tractor but were not 3PH. In normal mode, a hydraulic cylinder raised and lowered the bar. It would raise to maybe a 45-deg position. In transport mode, you had to manually push the bar into a vertical position and then attach a rod to it to hold it up there. I remember that whenever the bar would just start to get vertical, the cutting bar would drop down several inches. You had to remember to keep your fingers out from between the teeth when lifting it up. That cutting bar was heavy and those teeth were sharp. They wouldn't be very forgiving. That was many years ago and it still gives me the willies. BTW, I still have all ten fingers! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
