Hello all,
I have been reading up a lot on all your posts and all your helpful comments. I hope you have some advise for me as well.
Just bought some land and inherited a pole barn, telephone posts 12 inch, 15 feet spacing, currently 30 ft wide and 30 ft long, 15 ft height on the front and 13 feet on the back, all sloped to the back with a pitch height of 2 feet over the 30 feet length. The roof is carried by three metal beams on the poles running front to back.
The poles are somewhat crocked, there is no wall siding and the roof is metal but leaks everywhere.

The need:
- I need to have at least 35 ft for my travel trailer
- like to have one bay for general work area
- like to have a shop on the side
- like to have a rest room in the back
The plan:
- tear the roof of and leave the metal beams on the posts.
- add additional (squares in picture) posts (12 feet x width) in the back and one side (12 feet by length)
- extend the metal beams over the additional posts in the back with wood trusses
- put new metal roof on
The questions:
- the poles are somewhat crocked and I like to have straight walls, I intend to run a concrete footing wall and frame on top of that. The frame would be up to 2 inches away from the poles in some parts to keep my straight wall. But this would not be a problem to me as I can attach the frame to them.
- as much as I like concrete floor I will have to live with crushed limestone or something like that. I will have concrete in the 12 x 42 ft shop area but this is all I can afford right now.
- need a decision on siding. Once I frame the outside I really like to put the same material up as I will have on the roof (Tuff-Rib 29 gauge painted material). But the prices are still a little shock to the wife. So I must ask you guys if there are "cheaper" alternatives to metal. I don't mind either working with metal or wood. I just like the long term maintenance free aspect of metal.
