Yesterday we had a really nasty storm come through with very high winds, rain, and hail. Luckily my property sustained minimal damage. Just a couple branches fell. About a mile or so north of me sustained the most damage, many trees down on top of cars and houses. Whole trees uprooted, many small sheds and roofs destroyed. But what I found interesting is a large farm just north of me had his silo fall down. The silo was FULL  :( . I took some pictures to share of the cleanup.

We don't usually get nasty storms like this in our area but the last couple year have not been normal. We usually just get alot of snow and ocasional ice damage. The last storm we had around this time of year was many years ago when we had a tornado (which they called it a microburst) go through our back yard and woods and made a perfect trench about a foot deep for a ways.

How is everyone else holding across the country??? I know this is nothing compared to elsewhere.

i have heard that can happen to those older wooden silos, esp if the wind catches them just right. where are you located in upstate? my inlaws and my moms family is from upstate my inlaws are from baldwinsville area and my moms family is from sherrill, oneida area. i'm up that way a lot, and have been looking for employment out that way and also looking to purchase a farm property there as well. we get some nasty storms now and then more so lately as they pass through you guys and on to us in ct. last summer i worked like 3days straight getting power back on after some nasty storms that blew through and spawned a couple of microbursts.

farmerjim, I am about 45 minutes north of syracuse in the town of Richland. Yes the silo was wooden and old. The farmer is just lucky that it didn't fall on his barn which was full of cows. The cap of the silo was the only thing that fell on the barn. What I was wondering most is the silage still usable. I would think it has lots of splinters in it now. As for farm land for sale not much. Mostly small lots with houses that people lost as they could not afford them. My neighbor which is a large farm put his farm up for sale last year then decided he wasn't going to sell was asking $3.4 million. The new barn he just put up a couple years ago cost him $450,000 and is just open stalls. Most of the small farms and places with large amount of land have been bought by the amish. They are moving in like crazy. Some places are not suppose to get power back on till end of week. Being this hot out I feel bad for some people.
