simplicity 616 tranny problems

I'm still having trouble with my transmission jamming between high and low gear.

and the pictures I can find are all of standard models and none with the over drive option

so I broke down and tore the gear box apart to see what makes it tick and to fix the shifting problem.

once I removed the gear box from the tractor I cracked the case open.

I didn't find anything wrong inside but the normal stuff. worn gears, sloppy shafts.

but on the other half of the case I found a roll pin that keeps the shifter in place when sifting gears. it was worn flat on one side and was cracked on the other side.

so the hardest part was locating a pin to replace the broken one. and removing the broken one wasn't all that easy either.
it seems that they drive a ball down through the roll pin to hold it in place.

now I got it all together and I have not really given it a real good shake down but I think I fixed the shifting problem.

Thanks for the update. Atleast now you've got an end to your problem in sight.
I'll be replacing a head on my Simplicity in the coming weeks. At least these machines are repairable and worth repairing. Some of the newer stuff is made disposable.
