Perhaps low idle.
Does it "stall" like the motor is overloaded, or does it just shut off, like someone turned the key. If the later, is a safety interlock not satisfied or reading a false positive?

That is, what are the normal safety interlocks? Is there a condition where tractor shuts off if PTO is on and something else occurs ( Example: If nobody is in seat, or if you put it in reverse, etc...)? If so, it might be those switches that aren't working correctly.

It could be a low idle coupled with the thicker fluid viscosity as cooler temperatures approach. You could try increasing your idle speed a bit as you engage the PTO or allow a longer warm up. Of course as Coby suggested it could be some kind of safety interlock as well.

I have Simplicity Prestige, while this may sound odd, what I do is have the engine at half throttle and at half choke. Doing this keeps my tractor from having the problem you are having. Once the PTO gets going I open the choke.

Does it stall with nothing attached to it? If not, does it stall with any implement attached or just a specific one?
