does sirius work with a AM radio in tractor, can i buy a portable AM/FM radio for the tractor and make it work that way no problems

and if so can i buy normal sirius radio that plugs into cigarette outlet and works with the portable FM radio that i can also move the actual sirius radio from tractor to tractor easy and fast

I don't have one yet, but my information is that it's satellite radio. You have to buy a special receiver and pay monthly fees.

You have to have FM, the receivers will not broadcast on an AM frequncy.

Hey gump341, I just wrote you all the details, but either my computer or this site doesn't want to work for me tonight and it all got erased. So I'm sick of typing, so long story short...have you looked into a Sirius boom box. Portable, cheap and take anywhere. I haven't seen any sirius receivers that transmit over am.
I had the fm transmitting, plug into a power point (or lighter) unit in my big truck. That way I could take it in my personal vehicle or travel trailer. They have a switch on them to pick different fm frequencies to use on your radio, so, for example, if you have a local station with a strong signal on fm 88.1 and it overpowers your sirius you could switch to 88.9.
I also bought extra power chords and antennaes, just because I'm a neat freak with my vehicles and I didn't want exposed wires, so I hid them all under the dash, etc. That way I only had to carry the receiver from vehicle to vehicle.

i switch my serius receiver between trucks and when in the backhoe i listen through a portable FM unit with head phones. when at the shop i leave it on in my truck and listen through a boom box.
good luck,

also does the fm need to be installed in tractor to make sirius work?
can i have a stand alone portable fm playing on 88.1 in the truck and will sirius work plugged into outlet

Any FM radio will work - built-in, boombox, tabletop, home stereo or MP3 player with an FM reciever. The Sirius unit simply broadcasts on a specific frequency - you tune your FM receiver to that frequency and you're good.

I move my receiver between three vehicles and have an antenna mounted in each of them. I also have an AC adapter and antenna mounted in the house and use the Sirius receiver there too.

If you have an input jack (looks like an earphone jack but is an input) on your boombox you can wire it directly from the output on the Sirius receiver and eliminate the need for using FM.

Good luck.

so your saying i can use a basic clock radio with fm and tune to 88.1, then turn on my already installed JUST AM radio in the truck and it would work with the fm clock radio?

also about the antenna, is there a good antenna that will still pick up everything that i can pull off and on roofs easy and fast, instead of installing a whole bunch of them

concerning the boombox, is there a durable one i can use that can work all day using live sirius radio, just bring it with me and put antenna with suckion on the rooftop and thats it?
also would the boombox be durable in a rough tractor and what about speakers?i would like to listen to it like normal radio speakers
