There's another way to getting music into your yard work. I'm into light classical music and there's a couple low power FM stations within thirty miles of me. I've been using a worktunes FM receiver headset but the reception is spotty. Sometimes if I move a few feet, a commercial station will overpower the one that I want.
Dishnetwork broadcasts twenty music channels and it would be nice if I could receive those while working outside. But an outside speaker is out of the question.
I considered taping the music and using a portable player, but that's a lot of work to prepare.
Then I considered converting the music to MP3 format and playing it over one of those MP3 players. A lot of work.
What I needed was an audio to FM converter that would broadcast on an empty frequency and give me range to about 600 feet.
Amazon has some of those but the users say that the range as received is 3 to 10 feet. They do go on to say how opening the case and turning a potentiometer will increase the range to 100 feet. That's still not enough.
Then I remembered a kit supplier from my amateur radio days (
Ramsey Electronics). He has several models that I think will do the job. The glitch is that they are kits that will take a beginner about ten hours to assemble. Though if you know how to solder, it's a four hour job. I ordered a kit today and after I assemble it, I will post my results in this thread.
I'm anticipating that this item will take my dishnetwork audio and broadcast it on 88.0MHZ FM to give me 600 feet range to my worktunes headset. By doing this I won't have to buy a sirius receiver or pay the monthly fees.
