seems like the sportster does have built in AM/FM radio, but i heard the static is unbearable, would a fm direct adaptor work, would it elimate all the static

could i plug my boombox into lighter oulet, plug adaptor into boombox, then the other end of adaptor into antenna?

There's another way to getting music into your yard work. I'm into light classical music and there's a couple low power FM stations within thirty miles of me. I've been using a worktunes FM receiver headset but the reception is spotty. Sometimes if I move a few feet, a commercial station will overpower the one that I want.
Dishnetwork broadcasts twenty music channels and it would be nice if I could receive those while working outside. But an outside speaker is out of the question.
I considered taping the music and using a portable player, but that's a lot of work to prepare.
Then I considered converting the music to MP3 format and playing it over one of those MP3 players. A lot of work.
What I needed was an audio to FM converter that would broadcast on an empty frequency and give me range to about 600 feet.
Amazon has some of those but the users say that the range as received is 3 to 10 feet. They do go on to say how opening the case and turning a potentiometer will increase the range to 100 feet. That's still not enough.
Then I remembered a kit supplier from my amateur radio days (Ramsey Electronics). He has several models that I think will do the job. The glitch is that they are kits that will take a beginner about ten hours to assemble. Though if you know how to solder, it's a four hour job. I ordered a kit today and after I assemble it, I will post my results in this thread.

I'm anticipating that this item will take my dishnetwork audio and broadcast it on 88.0MHZ FM to give me 600 feet range to my worktunes headset. By doing this I won't have to buy a sirius receiver or pay the monthly fees.

Not sure what you mean about the JUST AM radio in the truck. The Sirius receiver only broacasts over FM, but you can receive it on a clock radio (as long as it has FM). I've been known to have mine on and have it playing on three or four different radios (in different rooms) in the house. As a side note, mine is an older Sirius One model and I've heard that they have reduced the broadcast strength of the newer units, but they'll still work fine in a car/truck/tractor.

All of the car antennas that I have are magnet mount. Easy on-easy off.

Can't help with the boombox durability question.

I installed Sirius SAT Radio in my tractor as follows:

Installed a AM/FM/CD Head Unit (Radio), speakers, with an auxiliary input ($90 bucks)
Velcro'ed my old circa 2005, externally mounted (magnetized) Auto Satellite antenna on top of my cab.
Ran the Antenna wire into my cab
took my portable Sirius Sportster (circa early 2005 model) from inside my house.
got a mini plug cable (Male plug on both ends)
Plugged one end of the mini plug into the Sportster
plugged the other end of the mini plug into the Aux input of the AM/FM/CD Radio
Plugged the car power cable into my power plug in the tractor
plugged the SAT antenna cable into the back of my Sportster.
Selected the Aux input

Works like a charm - I use it while i am cutting my yard and my neighbors yard.

I still bring the Sportster in the house and plug it up to my audio equipment.

go reuse effort for me as I don't need this unit in my cars anymore.

I hope this helps
