so, with my new lawn (one year old) and my concern for long-term health effects of synthetic fertilizers (like scott's), i went to the "espoma organic" brand.
in the past, i used a push spreader, and it was a nightmare -- burning the lawn, jamming, free-spinning - you name it -- i have many patch spots in my lawn to prove it.
so, at my tractor dealer, i got a sitrex spreader, 600 lb. capacity, in kubota orange --
here she is --
and
here's inside the cylinder -- the agitator --
and the sturdy PTO drive --
next, the fertilizer. i have 3 acres, so in all, we're at 600 lbs. i found the hopper to carry 500 lbs to the top, so i kept the remaining bags in the front bucket, for counterweight and convenience when the hopper ran empty.
here's the fertilizer --
and its ingredients -- pretty benign --
next, the hopper -- full --
i found the whole running the hopper very easy -- which is good, since i have to spread 4x this year.
and the best thing about organic is, that you can use the lawn right afterwards, and so can your pets, without fear of ingesting some carcinogenic garbage --
