whats the red thing on the lift arm that seems to serve no pourpous but you seem to see on lots of machinery that has a FEL arm setup?

its not a the lift cylinder, its not a gard for the front hydrolic hose....

this case has one

I see them all the time but i can never figure out what they do.

When you lift the arms all the way up(to do some maintenance, including tilting the cab up), you put that guard around one of the cylinders as a safety. It would keep the arm in the "up" position if the hydraulics’ had a failure.

You need two men to use it properly, one to be in the machine and lift the arms and one to install the safety.

Everyone knows...NEVER walk under a raised bucket...right? (although we all do it sometimes)

Quickdraw is too quick for me. Like he says, it is a safety device than goes over the extended cylinder. Now when raised, if a hose should break, the lift won't come down an crush who/what is under it.
