I am thinking of getting a skid steer adapter for my 5525 with 542 MSL. Has anybody used them for? I assume they go and off easily.

Does JD make a set for the 400X also?

Thanks,
D.

JD does have it for both loaders, But I have to ask why you want to switch? Didn't you just get some forks that will fit both loaders?

Yeah, i am looking at some specific rock buckets, and maybe a tree shear. I suspect if I bought them to fit a JD the resale would suck - especially the tree shear. I found a decent deal on a shear - trying to see if I can make it work on my tractor instead of having to buy a skid steer. I would love to have a skid steer, but many they are expensive.

ATI makes a good adapter. I've got one on my larger M8200 Kubota and it works great on it. They are heavily constructed and have good workmanship. In fact, I've been thinking about getting one for my JD 4320.

It looks like ATI has them for my 542 and 400X.

How much did they cost?

I had a local blacksmith's shop weld up a plate to adapt loader QT to SS, Uses a couple of bolts instead of levering SS pins into the attachment.

Cheap & fast at $150, still maintains loader QT function.

I have a JD 5520 and looked into the skid-steer adaptor for the loader and the JD price was not all that bad. I can't recall but on the order of $600? or so. You can look it up on the JD new equipment "build your own" site.
Not only can you hook up to skid-steer stuff you can also get an adaptor to use 3 PT hitch equip on the loader.
I looked at the competition and think JD was the best made at the best price.

I can't say exactly how much it was because it was built into the trade price with the tractor. I think it was around $500 to $600.

I had the ATI Quick-tach on my Kubota and the John Deere Quick-tach on my Deere. I actually prefer the Deere Quick-tach to the ATI. I never had a problem with the ATI, but the Deere is a bit beefier and appears to be a slightly better design. Don't forget that the skid steer will probably use different types of quick connects for the hydraulics too.
