skid steer backhoe refit

Hi all,

I bought this backhoe for my komatsu sk714 skid steer. It is off a toyota skid steer. It mounts onto the front of the toyota machine not the loader. Is there any reason why I can't modify this to fit my quick attach on the front of the loader?

Ron you have an excellent hoe to put on a SSL, I would burn off the frame mount and put in a quicktach plate. But most loaders with a hoe on fron have a plate to fasten the hoe to the frame of the machine to keep it from flexing the arms. The cylinders for the tilt will bypass. Bobcat uses 2 trailer ball couplers on the upper part of the hoe frame, and has 2 trailer balls one on each side of the cab entrance I think the most available model was the 609. My 1840 Cas has holes to mount 2 turnbuckle type devices from the top of the hoe frame to the bottom front of the loader..

Attaching a skid steer plate to the hoe is the relatively easy part. Skid steer hoes and then attached firmly to the skidsteer to take the stress off the lift arms. That will be the hard part to fabricate. However, if the hoe was only used for limited use and used fairly carefully, I would not be too worried about just using the skid steer attachment plate.

Does anyone have pictures of the stabilizing brackets usually added to the skidsteer for using a backhoe. Been searching the web and not finding much. Is the bracket to prevent the tilt cylinder moving or is it to support the loader so that it doesnt get bent by digging forces or both.

I don't have any pictures and the skid steer is 100 miles away. My hoe brackets are welded to the hoe and attachment plate and directly pin to bracket on the skidsteer. Neither the lift arms or tilt cylinders can move. Everything is rigid. The 2 attachment points carry all the weight and stress and are bolted to the front of the skid steer. I bought a used Bradco hoe that was on a Case skid steer. The mounting plates for the Case are completely different from my Bobcat skid steer. Had to order new mounting plate to match to the Bobcat. Even different models/frame size of Bobcat machines can have different mounting plates for my Bradco hoe depending on the design of the front of the skid steer.

Hi All,

Finally got some time to work on this project. I cut off the old brackets and welded on new quick attach plates. I still have to add the brackets to tie the backhoe to the skid steer frame. I am thinking of trying to use the old brackets that I cut off the machine. I have added a sketch along with the photos to show what I am thinking. I'd appreciate any feedback on the idea. The fixed pin would drop into the slot and then a pin is inserted to hold it in place.

Just a bit more info on what I am going to try for support brackets. The grey and green bracket will be bolted to the machine frame at the cab entrance. The red part will be attached to the backhoe, one each side. When unloading it I will leave it up as high as possible. Therefore I can hook into the quick attach, then drop the backhoe into the brackets shown here and pin them. It will solidify the tilt cylinder and lift cylinder and hopefully prevent excessive forces being transmitted to the rear pins on the lifting frame.

I think you're on the right track. If my memory is correct, there was some kind of lock-out for tilt and lift when the backhoe is attached. Maybe not, been awhile since I've used one.
The second page would be the type using a ball and socket arrangement. And maybe the one where both get locked out since the operator is outside the cage.

Hi All,

Finally got some digging done tonight. Is working quite well. Only thing is there is still a little bit of play on the tilt cylinder. If you drop the arm quickly there is a bit of a jolt so I try and keep the movements smooth.

The soak hole for the house needs re doing so this is its first test. I plan to put 3" washed stone 1 metre deep and then run 4" pipe with notches cut in it every foot. The problem with this soak hole is that the washing machine and dishwasher run into it and the grease from the dishes and the powder from the washing machine seem to cake inbetween the stone. HAs anyone every put a filter in the line to try and take these out before the water hits the stones and if so what material did you use..

Also threw in a pic of my new car in August...
