As my mind wanders while mowing the grass, my thoughts turned to ... winter and blowing snow.

I was wondering about running a skid steer type, hydraulic powered snowblower on the loader arms. A skid steer plate would need to be attached to the arms for the unit to mount on. The hydraulic flow would come from a pto pump. A hydraulic fluid tank could be mounted on the rear blade. The weight of the tank would be an aide for traction and scraping the pavement clean.

This would yield a loader arm mounted snowblower with a rear blade.

Any thoughts or comments.

I have a 6' skid steer snow blower. The low flow motor is like 20 to 23gpm, the highflow is a bit higher (if I remember correctly). So you need some hp to handle it. (I am running it as a pto setup right now)

My JD 110TLB FEL has the standard quick-attach mount system up front and aux hyd also. Attaching the blower would be easy. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif However, the hyd. press to the ports is low flow and not enough to handle the blower. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif There was a guy selling quick-attach adapters that converted to a three point mount. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif It had a hyd. motor that provided a std. pto. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I was thinking of the possibilities. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

From what I have read from some web sites selling hydraulic equipment, 20 pto horsepower on a pto hydraulic pump will get you about 20 gpm flow. Most of the specifications for skid steer snowblowers call for 20-23 gpm.

I would make it a seperate system from the tractor. Although I have four remotes, the system would be plumbed independent. Hyrdaulic fluid in a seperate tank on the rear blade flows to the pto pump to the snowblower and return to the tank. The snowblower would be engaged with the pto.

At what pressure ?

I get 1500psi. <font color="black"> </font>

i've got a skid steer and have been lurking and learning on this site for great ideas.
normal aux hydraulics for a skid steer are in the 12gpm range, sometimes as high as 16. normal pressures are 2000 psi, so a a gpm is worth more then a horsepower. but, most of your tractor hydraulics are a LOT smaller then 16 i believe.
northern hydraulics has a PTO pump for 20gpm for like 200 bucks or something. general rule fo thumb is one gallon in the tank for each GPM.
On the flip side, I've been thinking REALLY hard about buying a PTO blower cuz they are so cheap and putting a 15 gpm hydraulic motor on it for my steer. Also, weight on teh front of the tractor means lots less traction unless you have 4wd.
hope this helps.
