JD TLB 110
I am looking to clear about 20 acres with a fair amount of brush and poison oak. the terrain is rolling so not flat. I would like my setup to allow me to use my backhoe with thumb without needing to swap to mowing deck so the idea of a front mounted mower makes a lot of since especially because it will be easier to see where i want to mow between trees, etc without spinning around and watching backwards.

The Skid Steer mowing deck options I have looked at all seem to want 15 GPM minimum and the tractor only produces 12.2 GPM.

I was wondering if anyone in this forum uses a skid steer mower on a JD 110 and if so, what brand do you recommend and how are your results? I have seen one on U-tube, so I know it works.

I have also seen many comments about not having any problems with overheating hydraulic fluid with the 110, so anybody have any thoughts on if they though running the 110 at the max GPM continously would be a problem or if you have any other concerns with my idea?

thanks in advance!

Posted on your other thread too.

It would seem you would be better off with the front grapple and rear brushhog. These should work well to counter balance each other. I have a little over 900 hours on my 110 and can say that either the backhoe or a 1200+ lb implement on the rear matches well with the capabilities of the fel.

Fact is, the pto hp is 31 and is enough to run a 6' brush mower with out problems but the front hydraulics do not have enough flow for what you want. The fel is well built and strong though and well suited for grapple work.

I should also add that the hoe has a higher flow rate of about 16 gpm and when I was buying the PA30 hydraulic auger I went with the quick coupler and hoe mounting for this reason.

I do lots of this type work and use the 110, 4520 and an older 820 and all of these will share the Cat 1 implements I have well. The 110 does a good job with most everything and the hoe is so easy to remove and replace with the 3ph kit.

About the visibility issues, you need to be able to see whether going forwards or backwards. If you get a 6' brush hog this will follow the tractor so you can drive forwards between the larger trees. I think you are better off driving thru the brush before you cut it, gives you a chance to find hidden stumps and trash that might be hard to see.

Just my opinion but I wouldn't try to reinvent the wheel here, a front grapple and rear brush mower is optimum for what you want to do.
