In April (4 months ago) I began the process of killing about 3.5 acres of field grass. The area had crop rows (2 to 5" deep) that made it unbearable to mow in any direction other than parallel with the rows. I'm glad I started killing the grass when I did because that stuff won't die and stay dead. It took four applications of glyphosate to beat it down to mostly bare soil. The farmer next door has just disced the land.

What do you advise that I use?
  1. Rent a skid steer with rockhound ~$400
  2. Rent a 60" pulverizer for my BX2660 ~$35 per day
  3. Rent both

How long do you think it would take to rockhound or pulverize that much of an area?

The "rockhound" is only designed to collect and remove stones/rocks. Is the area rocky? If you are just trying to smooth the soil a pulverizer and drag could work. I would at least try that before spending the $400. You could also rent a skid steer with a Harley Rake if available as those are designed to level and windrow debris.
