Hello all,
I installed a new driveway when we bought our house 2 years ago. At the time it was a spongy area and was recommended to install slag from a local steel plant to "bridge" the area, first layer was 3-4" then packed in, after a couple of months 1 - 1-1/2" was added over the packed in 3". it worked like a charm. only down side was you had to pick up a few pieces of scrap metal after grading and it had kind of a sulfur smell when the weather was hot for the first month.
Now I want to asphalt over the top of it, but was told by someone that I could not as the Slag would "react" with the asphalt and break it down. the last thing I want is tar like goo being tracked into my garage or house.
Does anyone have any experince with this combo or know anything about my "slag" and can offer any advise
