Sliding door lock

I have a sliding barn type door that I need to secure. The door as well as the building are sided in extruded steel. Is there a hasp that can be purchased to accomplish this or do I need to fab one up? I thought about buying a large strap hinge and having at it, but always check here first for those guys with Yankee ingenuity. Thanks, smoker

Do you want to secure it from the inside or outside?

My rolling or slider door is secured from the inside. It is a split door with a cam type lock at each end of the door that pulls the door into the wall tight along with a simple hoop type deal at the center where the doors meet each other.

From the outside. Need a hinged latch with at least 4" drop to get me back to the building surface. Can't seem to find a thing. smoker

maybe just bolt a piece of 4 x 4 to the side of the building to bring it out to where the door is... then use a standard hasp.

I'm not a yankee, but all I did was put a 90 degree bend in a long and heavy hasp. The screws on the hasp go into the side of the door and the hasp foldes over them. The hook is screwed into the wall and after being bent 90 degrees, the hasp fits over the hook and the padlock secures it. I have one on each side of the door and it not only locks the door, but it also holds the door tight against the wall. The picture below is looking straight down, with the door and wall in cross section.

That's a good idea Zing, only.....I only have access to the to the end of the door that slides by the building. You had me going there for a minute, I'm going...DUH that was simple until I thought for a moment. Appreciate your thoughts and that neat drawing. smoker
