I went to refuel my tractor this weekend and after I had nearly emptied the 5 gal container I noticed 5 or 6 blobs of black gunk settled out at the bottom. The diesel had been stored about 4 months but I had put in Stabil for diesel when I filled it and it was a new yellow container. I don't have a clue what this stuff is or where it came from but I don't want it in my tractor. It doesn't desolve, settles to the bottom and has the consistancy of grease. Looks like the perfect material to stop up some injectors. :(

Possible Black-colored Fungus that grows in storage tanks? It can Stop up the whole rig, we had several fuel pumps fail on gen-set diesels... Hired the fuel company to come back and purge, flush the tanks with special filters. Now we use Startron, an enzime additive for fungus..sure hope it works, so far great results..

Must be some healthy fungus. I put Stabil for diesel and Lucas fuel treatment in there when I filled it. Maybe some jock itch ointment would knock it out.

I hope you did not put it your tractor. If you did get some fungcide and start using it. I got it in my skidsteer a couple years ago and had a **** of a time getting rid of it. I added another filter in line and had to treat my fuel almost all summer. It would plug the line and filter and looked like black brown snot. The stuff I used I got from the Co Op and it was called bioclean. Stabil will not kill it. Treat you tank if you have not done so and I would throw that can away. Good Luck Ivan

Unfortunately I had emptied the can before I saw it. My Branson has dual tanks too so it would be a job to remove them to flush them out. I'll get several filters and change them often. I checked yesterday at Tractor Supply and they don't have anything but the normal fuel treatments. I'm going to check at some local truck stops where they carry more diesel products.

I got some stuff at the local farm store and its made but the same company that makes power service. It seemed like it was pretty pricey for a small bottle, but I bought it just in case the need arises some day.

I saw all the Power Service products at TS but none of them say anything about killing fungus. They say they remove water in the fuel that can support fungus growth. Most of the additives do that. I'll check them out on-line.

I found it, it's called Bio Kleen, kills microbes and fungi.

yep.. i'd bet on biologicals.

I'd treat the tractor tank and any bulk or cans with a biocide imemdiatly before it gets a hold..

There must have been some water contamination in your fuel and as a result there is probably some bacteria growing at the water-fuel interface in your storage container.

Since you live in a climate where there is high humidity, this water contamination can occur in your fuel storage tank as well as your tractor tank.

If that's the case, you'll need to treat your tanks and your storage container with an additive that contains a biocide. It's unlikely to clog the injectors but it can clog the tank strainer and the fuel filter if there is enough of it.
