Rotary Cutter Slip Clutch Not Slipping

You replaced yours for $12? Where did you get them for that price? I've been quoted close to $100...

Bought just the discs at my local Kubota dealer.

Land Pride's method is to loosen all the bolts two turns, then engage the PTO and make sure the discs move and the clutch slips. If I had my time back I'd have bought one with a shear bolt. I have to take mine apart this winter and clean it up, one disc isn't moving.

We have a heavy 7" cutter and was told shear pins are not an option because they would be shearing all of the time. It really is not hard at all to take apart and replace the discs and retighten. Much less trouble than past shear pins on trees about the size of a baseball.

Seems like more work to me.. I rarely cut trees with mine. Since our pastures are for horses, the punji sticks that are left from mowing trees are more trouble than the trees were. In fact, I'm looking for a replacement driveline with a shear bolt (if I can find one for next to free I'll take advantage of it).

In your case since you really have little cause to hit solid objects I agree with your view. I mark mine from time to time to make sure it is slipping some times.
