I am in the process of repairing my Walterscheid 2 disc non-adjustable slip clutch that was on my Maschio tiller. This clutch was rusted bad due to sitting out side uncovered for many years. I have taken it apart and cleaned all the rust off by using a solvent and sandblasting. I also have new friction discs. My question to anyone that is familiar with this clutch should I paint inside of the housing, both sides of the thrust plate and the belleville springs. I know the hub shouldn't be painted because of the slipping motion between the friction discs but I don't know if the friction discs themselves rotate. If the discs don't rotate I would think it would be ok to paint these parts. Thanks for any information. Larry

Here, this might help in understanding how it works. I logged in and looked close at the thing and still don't understand zactly what's going on there.

From my point of ignorance I would think it OK to paint anything but the friction surfaces.

Dennis, thats just it, I don't know if the two friction disc will occasionally rotate also. If I knew the friction discs would stay stationary and the hub would just rotate between them I would think it will ok to paint these parts. I'm thinking that the two disc will rotate also at times if so paint would not be a good idea.Any more comments are welcome. Thanks Larry

I had a slip clutch on my tiller that I redid. The inside of the clutch where the friction material goes was not painted from the factory. I decided not to paint this. My slip clutch is covered on the tiller by a metal shield to keep the rain out. It worked well I just sandblasted the springs and replaced the bolts. i have not tried it since i cleaned it up because my tractor a Ford 8N can't handle a tiller.

Thanks Sportsman but this clutch is built differently than the type you have. Larry
Oh I did not think of that oops. All the slip clutches I have dealt with were the same. here are some pics of my clutch before I painted it. My friction discs were in good shape. PC260084.JPG this is it still together. PC260087.JPG here is it partially apart. Hope this helps if it is different ignore my previous post.
