John Deere 5075M
Hi everyone ... I'm a fairly new tractor owner with a 2011 John Deere 5057M that I bought used with 3500 hours on it. I'm very happy with the tractor but I'm looking for advice on a tire issue.

The issue is that my left rear tire develops a slow leak about every 12 to 18 months. The leak appears to be caused by the calcium chloride ballast in my tires corriding the spring on the shrader valve core. When iI replace the valve core, the problem goes away for awhile, but it always reappears a year or so later.

Strangely, this only seems to happen on the left rear tire. The other 3 tires are also filled with calcium chloride ballast but their valve cores seem to be fine.

Replacing valve cores is not a big deal, but I'd like to make this problem go away if I can.

Are there corrosion resistant valve cores available? I've just been using standard automotive valve cores.

Is there anything else I can do to fix this problem?

What about switching to a less corrosive ballast such as antifreeze? What is the ballpark price I should expect for an onsite visit from an outfit that does tractor tire work?

My previous tractor had CaCl in the rear tires. I replaced both valve cores EVERY year. My new tractor has Rim Guard in the rears. No more problems.

NO - I've not heard of corrosion resistant valve cores. One of the big problems, along with the CaCl solution - galvanic action. The stem is usually brass - the core is usually steel. Galvanic action.

Strange only one side is causing problems. Maybe put the new core in the right and right in the left? and see what happens.

There is a thread from August, 2014, about using stainless steel cores for CaCl filled tires. Try Googling them. I found many sources like the other thread discussed.

Thank you, MHarryE. I'll look for the stainless steel cores and give 'em a try!
