Greetings All,
I have 2816 geared with 205 hours. Has FEL, backhoe and just added grapple. When running the tractor will bog down like it is under a very heavy load. Will stall if I let it. I push
in the clutch and it will build back up. It was doing this when cold (just near 30 degrees) so I let it warm the next time and it still did the same thing. Now it does it even when
the engine is warm.

Any ideas what this could be?:confused3:

Two things come to mind.
1) Dirty fuel filter
2) Due to O.A.T. of 30 Degrees there is a possibility the fuel is starting to gel up.
Check your fuel filter for cloudiness or a waxy substance. If you can see that the fuel is starting to gel. Replace the filter and add a product such as Power Service or similar that will prevent fuel from gelling once the temp drops below freezing.
Note that even if the engine may be warm, the fuel is not heated and is still at the 30 degree temp.
One other thing I just thought of is to check the lever positions of your remotes. Make sure they are centered or they will tax the hydraulics pressure to the point of relief.

We have the 4540 geared and the only time we lost power was a bad connection on the hydraulic lines in the rear after taking the backhoe off, that was my fault.

I’ll second the fuel. A 2816 with only 200 hours means the thing doesn’t burn through that much. Just as George said-
Filter and gelling are two easy checks. I’ll add that it’s come up more than once that a little chunk of debris has gotten stuck at the bottom of the fuel tank where it goes into the hose. It’s just gravity so it doesn’t take much to restrict flow.

Pull your air cleaner apart and make sure your prefilters and filters are not soaking wet.... Loss of power usually is air or fuel related...

If this condition started after the grapple install, I would disconnect all hydraulic lines to it and see if the problem goes away. Try this before checking the fuel issues above.

Sounds like something is blocking the fuel supply. Filter is the first thing to look at. Do you have any filter screens in your fuel pump? Is there any chance that there is some junk in your fuel tank and your fuel lines are plugged up?

Your symptoms are exactly the same as when the fuel filter on my 2216 gear gelled up. It was lower than 30 deg when this happened to me, but as others stated it very well could be filter related.

One sometimes overlooked maintenance item is draining the fuel tank to remove junk from the bottom.

First do the easy stuff. Remove the filler cap and try it. The vent may be plugged .
