I repaired the blower we bought this fall and decided to try it out even though it has been raining all day. Just wanted to see how well it would scrape and throw slush. Backing into about 3 inches of slush and snow mix it barely trew it halfway up the pipe before it fell out the slot, which doesnt surprise me as there is at least an inch of space behind the fan and an inch at the tip.

What I didn稚 expect was the the slush would wrap itself around the augers like twine. Packed the chute solid too. I bet it took me half an hour to clean that out. Temp is supposed to drop to 17 tonight so ant leave it like that.

I guess ill try wax or fluid film to avoid this with snow. Never had a problem with the push blower but i never used it in slush either.

Slush will do that regardless of what you put in the chute to make it slicker. And yes, make sure that is all cleaned out before it freezes other wise you will have an even bigger problem.

The best thing to do with slush is push it, don't try to blow it.

Was your blower parked in a warm building?

salamander heater and a tarp or warm building till clean and dry

I use a water hose to wash the ice off my vehicle windows. I don’t have a hot water tap outside which would really be the ticket but the “cold” water is a lot warmer than freezing and it works pretty fast.

I didn’t think about the salamander. I scooped most of it out by hand. It’s 39 degrees right now so wats left should melt before it freezes. If not ill fire up the heater.

I usually push the slush with the loader, just wanted to see if it would blow it. Too bad i couldnt just leave the slush in the fan area as it formed perfectly to the fan housing and made a nice tight fit.

On ships we use hot water sprayed out of a fire hose for de-iceing. Would make a mess of the shop though.

I can blow heavy slush with my Lorenz blower with no issues, but it has paddle style blades instead of the typical auger. I've read on here that you can bolt thick rubber onto the fan blades to reduce the gap between the fan and housing which will help it throw farther.

Goes back to my earlier question. If the blower was in a warm shop prior to use it was a recipe for disaster. :)

No heat in the shop.

I have squares of rubber belt that i can attach to the fan but the housing is uneven. 1/4” gap on one side and over an inch on the other. I am thinking about cutting out the wide side and rebuilding it. Or just use it this winter and sell it.

New blowers aren’t cheap
