Here's my scenario......is it worth trying to find a backhoe to fit this tractor(or buying new tractor!). Had this tractor since 1980 and it still works well..FEL, rake, blade
1974 Allis Chalmers Garden Tractor model 620, 2WD, 20 HP Onan with 600 FEL (48"), has hydro drive but only 2.25 GPM for drive and dual front spools, unused. FEL has it's own 3.5 GPM pump in front. Rear PTO cylinder uses hydro pump with dual acting cylinder, upward/downward pressure
Tractor weighs 1300, FEL about 350, big float tires (31x15) weighted to about 250+ each...total weight about 2150lbs. The rear PTO now has a standard 1" spline (had one custom made years ago) but it rotates clockwise at 2000 RPM (3600 engine rpm), electic clutch which will kill the engine before it slips! The hitch is a Cat 1 which we modified from the original Cat 0, new arms , toplink mount made. Hitch can probably lift 500 - 600 max.
I need a backhoe that can dig down 6' max for a 24inch trench for a geo system..needs to be 250 feet long. Is there any small backhoe that can easily be made to utilize this setup or would I spend too much and waste my money. The PTO speed seems to be a real problem even if I found a little 3 pt hitch backhoe with a pump attachment.
Don't know if I should bite the bullet and spend $15-18K for a tractor and keep it for another 25 years. Yard work only.
