What is the small hex head bolt on the side of this cylinder for? It's started leaking a little bit and it seems tight, but it's rusty so I don't want to mess with it and break it. I can't see a sealing washer underneath the head.

Is it a single acting cylinder like on a dump bed? If so, it could be a vent that might be leaking from fluid coming past the piston seals that would be failing.

Wow, I'm embarrassed. It's on a boom lift and because of the geometry it never occurred to me that it's a single acting cylinder. It has 4 hoses coming to it so I just assumed it was double acting, but it must have a pilot operated check valve and it's controlled from 2 locations (the ground and the cage), so it needs 4 hoses. I've never noticed any leaking before, this is the first time it's been used in awhile so I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks
