Small Car Race Track

Hello everyone,
First I like to say, this is a very helpful and informative site. I've been reading it for about two weeks now. We just moved from the big city in Illinois to small to a small town in Illinois. We are racers and needed land with a shop for building and practicing the cars. I have about 18 acres and 8 will be use for a small Dirt and Moto Cross track. The 8 acres was a corn field with some small hills. I brought a Kubota L2800HST W/LA463,Land Pride MR1572 and Woods RD72. Any suggestions or comments or help with the proper use of the Box Scraper would be nice.

Welcome Crash, sounds like you'll fit right in here. Nice looking piece of property. Reminds me of some friends who run the "beanfield 500" every winter. It's a real home grown race, mostly junkers. Usually on snow so the speeds aren't very high.

Ah, the box blade. Depends on what you are trying to do. Your adjustable top link is the key. Shorter top link makes the box dig in deeper and cut more soil. Longer top link cuts less and does more smoothing. Practice is the answer and I'd say you have the ideal place to play.

I have tinkered around with building a small motocross track for my son, he is on a KTM 50cc. A few things I have figured out: its harder than it looks, at least with a tractor, tracked skidsteer would be way better. Jumps and bumps take waaay more dirt than you would think, plan on needing several hundred or thousand yards of dirt for the scale you are talking about. Compacting the jumps is hard with a tractor, it does not like off camber. I would add a regular back blade to your implement selection. Preferably one that allows you to easily angle it so one end goes up and the other down, something apart from the adjustments in the 3pt. This would help a lot with banking etc.

My scale is much smaller and tighter so your mileage may vary.
