I need a electric or mechanical clutch to fit on a inch and 1/8 shaft. im replacing a 14 hp kholer with a 16 hp kholer on my 140 JD. the 14 hp had a inch shaft the 16 has 1 and 1/8. a new clutch is about 250 bucks. what are the alternatives?

Used to have 2 toro walk behind mowers and both had a elec. clutch with 18 h.p. engines 2 cyl.
Never had any problems with this type of clutch. worked well and reliable. it has been 15 years so probally improved.

See several in mower grave yards might be availabel in your area.

Mickey is right about Burdens. Good deals there but you need to match (or make) the clutch mounting. Some bolt to a plate and some have a tang that keeps the coil assembly from rotating. My old Woods uses the tang type and engages the under-belly drive shaft for the front blades.

In any case, making a tab to hold the coil assembly sure beats $200+ for a dealer match.

Are you trying to replace the electric PTO clutch on your machine? The prices for these things have gotten out of hand.

Have a friend with a lathe? I had the same problem with a JD112 Techunseh. Took the crank out and turned it down to 1 inch. Factory clutch works fine after that.
