I drove a small hyrdastatic tracotr today to load manure. The loader speed was unbelievable, fast and resposive. I got home on my 55 hp shuttle shift and could have taken a nap with the loader speed. What's up ?

What model was the HST tractor? Some of the smaller tractors have quite fast FEL operation because of cylinder size. But they will not have the lift power of your DK with larger cylinders.

Keep in mind how the hydro tractors work.. essentially the engine turns pumps.. those pumps supplies the transmission, and the working hyds... Units like bobcats and such have pretty substantial hyd flow rate.. as most of their attachments are hydro run. I don't find it suprising to see that they would have fast bucket hyds..

As for a regular scut or CUT type tractor.. as the other psoter said.. look at cyl size. Smaller cyl moves faster than a bigger cyl, given same flow characteristics.

I think most modern tractor/loader operators are a bit spoiled anyway.. My 1955 ford 660 with a 722 1-arm loader has a SA lift cyl, and a DA bucket cyl... no loader joystick.. just 2 detent style spools on the lift cover, roughly under your right leg, for right hand operation... tractor has a single 4gpm piston pump that also runs the 3pt lift... operation is plenty fast enough for me... anything faster and i might have to pay attention, instead of enjoying the tractor time!

Yeah, the loader on my big IH2500b is very slow while the loader on my little PT425 is very fast. Both in lift and dump/curl modes. The little one is so fast that you can flick landscape timbers 8' to 10' feet out in front of you with the forks. The little PT425 can out-maneuver and out haul the much larger tractor when it comes to moving large amount of loose material, as it can move 3-4 times faster than the big tractor.

However, when it comes to brute force, the big tractor could squash it like a bug. While the little tractor did tear a hole in my siding when I bumped into the garage, I fear the large tractor would have knocked the building off its foundation. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

There are lots of things that determine the loader speed. Hydraulic pressure, GPM, cylinder size, etc... as was mentioned by others.

and i thought i was the only one who ran into the side of the garage with the loader. promise i won't tell.......... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

No answers, just more questions...

Do HST tractors have a separate hydraulic pump for the implements, or do they just branch off from the same pumps that power the wheels?

If they run from the same pumps that power the wheels, it would make sense that your implements would run faster. You'd have a 25+ HP hydraulic pump running your loader.

Depends on the tractor, but our old IH HST has several pumps. They are all internal to the HST. There are many things to supply hydraulic power to...

The steering.
The FEL.
The two speed gear box attached to the rear end.
The PTO.
The aux hydraulics, etc...

Don't forget the 3-PT Lift...

Mine is a NH TN90F (80 hp) and it has 2 pumps, one for Power Steering and the other for all else. I have seen some with a single "pump" with 2 sides and separate output from each. I guess it really is 2 pumps though connected.

The only things hydrostatic on mine is, I think, the 20% up/downspeed I get from the 2 buttons on my gearshift knob and the shuttle reversing. Gives me 32 speeds in each direction.

My BX-2200 is fully hydro of course but it that **** rocker pedal sticks one more time, I'm gonna scream.

My 2¢

As far as i can tell, my NH 7610s has only a single pump for everything.. ps, 3pt, and remotes. Lines run from the lift cover to the steering valve.. and then to the steering ram. Front cover where lots of fords have a ps pump, is merely blanked off on mine. Fine with me.. I have few hyd power needs so far..
