Sorry, had to mig, pulsed mig at 85 for wire speed. Drop wire though nut touching broken screw and pull trigger. That way I did not knock nut out of line

tig tank was empty, and arc =I am not that good on a little 10-32 nut

Good that you got lucky on that one. I rarely work on parts that small, but quite frequently have people bring me broken bolts to machine out after they've tried welding it and made a big mess of the job.

I am the opposite
I ruin many more threads drill/pick/chase than I do welding.

I use drill as last resort.
It is easier for me to be exact w weld than center punch.

Weld is pretty easy, just don稚 weld nut or broken fastener to workpiece!

If i have to drill and screw up=Not a big deal just results in larger hole and new threads but friend had already bought correct screw and I didn稚 feel turning a task into a project.

The trick to successful drilling is to use a milling machine.
The problem with welding a nut on is that although it often works, if the threads are galled it is 100% guaranteed that it won't. And then you've hardened the end of the bolt you now need to drill out anyways.

The best is when someone drills, breaks an EZ OUT, welds a nut over that, breaks the nut off, and then gives up and brings it to me....

^ well with that mess I would just use my spark eroder. Good for blasting out that hard ez or handy for taps. When the part is softer than the broken piece you do need rigidity. I agree and got mills for that although for drilling, I love my little jig bore. Great sensitivity and x/y in tenths. For powering out something big, sure slap it on the mill.

That's exactly what I did actually.... I have an old sinker EDM in the corner that mainly gets used for that sort of job.
