Small Rotary Cutters

I have a 4110 rated at 17 PTO horsepower. Any ideas for a proper sized unit would be appreciated. The only model I have seen up to this point is the 48" KK. Unit would not be used that hard but would like to be able to take care of small brush, 1" or less. Have seen info on the Bush Hog SQ42 & 48 but no idea of their cost. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I used to have an SQ48 with my B7100. It cost $695 in 1995; don't know what they cost now. In my opinion, that would be the right size for your tractor and I really like the Bush Hog products, but you can certainly beat the price with King Kutter, Howse, etc.

I have the JD 413 cutter on my 4100 and it works fine. Don't know how the price compares to KK or any of the others. riday I was mowing grass and weeds higher than the hood with no problems. I've also run over saplings and such. Don't know that I'd do it on a regular basis though.

my guess would be that the 48" would do ok on your unit,king kutter makes a 40"unit also i believe,we just got a 60" king kutter and it has done a fine job of taking stuff down and runs fine behind our 4310 ehydro 25pto hp.for the price and what you want to take down in size i think the king kutter would do just fine. this is a picture of the some of the lighter work it has done,before shot

Hi

I have the 2210 which is about the same horsepower I think. I have the JD LX 4 mower which is 48 inches and power wise it handles it fine. I've only used it once on some tall grass and small brush but it didn't seem to load the engine at all. Just for referance it was 970 with a slip clutch and front and rear chain gaurds, delivered to me. I don't think you need to go any smaller then a 48.

Just a point of reference, I've been using a JD 503 cutter (60", 510 pounds) on my JD 755 (20 engine hp, 15 PTO hp) for years without any problem. The 503 was listed in JD catalog at the time as a compatible cutter for the 755 although the 503 manual lists 18 PTO hp as the bottom of the HP range. I have cut heavy field brush, bushes and small (1" or so) saplings. I got the 60" wide cutter because I wanted it to be wider than the outside tire width which is 52". You should have no problem with a 48" cutter.

Kind of makes you wonder why Deere lowered the implement size for newer machines. I'm sure warranty claims and the company lawyers had something to do with that...

Don't know the answer to that Roy. As I said, I have never had a problem with the combination. It always cut what I needed to cut. I've used it for hours at a time and my 755 never gave any indication it was struggling even while cutting up hill. The 48" would probably perform better but I'm not sure what the "better" would be. I might have achieved an increase in ground speed with the 48" but I don't ever recall wanting to go faster than I was going with the 60".
