Small septic or tie into existing?

A septic system is designed to the number of bedrooms due to the fact that this is what they use to determine the number of occupants in the home. Just for example you have 4 bedrooms, lets say you have 5 people for those 4 bedrooms. You can have 10 bathrooms but you still have only 5 people using those bathrooms.

That is basically the same thing that I said was done at my shop except the holding tank is a septic tank and the clear effluent is piping into the house leach field. If you are permitted for the amount of bedrooms that you will be putting on the system, then it would be legal to tie in your clear water line to the leach field. The slope and drop then is not as critical as with sending solids along with the flush water. This should be your cheapest option. You could do all the work yourself as far as digging in the septic tank, digging and laying the trench for your drain line. Hire a plumber to make the connections if you wanted to pass county inspection or just do it on the sly as the critical point of inspection is the field lines not the holding tanks.
No i am talking about just installing a holding tank all alone with no leaching fields, you are talking about installing a tank for another building but still piping it to a leach field. A holding tank alone (1500 gal.) should work fine if it isn't going to have heavy use. He would just need to have if pumped more often with heavy use.

thanks for all the input guys, I still need to think about it more. I think my first post wasn't worded clearly. The camp is a friends and the new small guest camp will also be his camp. So I am not worried about issues with sharing the system. From reading through all the helpful responses it seems like a mixed feeling on running waste piping 400feet. I think we are going to lean towards that and just take the gamble but this project is a year out from now. I like the idea of the large tank and getting it pumped as it will be used infrequently. Running 400ft with pvc scares me as I have herd of issues with it expanding and contracting as the ground temp changes, but its the most practical material I think.

PVC is what is used in the majority of small (36") sewer lines. They can go for miles. They just have to be installed correctly with no large rocks and deep enough for stability. Good luck with your project.

If your PVC line is buried deep enough to avoid freezing, the ground temp is reasonably stable so probably not much to worry about from the expanding issues. You could also put a d-box in the middle that would allow the pipes to expand into if needed...

Pea gravel will be your friend for allowing the pipe some wiggle room in the ground.
