Smaller 3 point spreader for sand, maybe salt? Other recommendation?

Hi all,

I have a very large 3 point broadcast spreader that we use for our fields. I'm looking for a much smaller and less expensive unit for putting sand, and maybe salt, on our driveway. Anyone have any recommendations?

I usually just take a 5 gallon bucket out and scoot it along and throw from the bucket by hand.

The fertilizer push spreaders would probably work for sand and some salt (if in hard crystals). I've also a little hand spreader, but it doesn't hold much.

Your field spreader would be safer, as you would not be out there on slick surfaces on foot. Not sure how far down you can crank those things. Could spread 5 gallon's worth pretty quickly.

I have a blower on the back so no way it is coming off for a spreader...I HATE connecting PTO's.

I think Ralph has a good idea for addressing a larger area. I have a small push type and a larger pull one that hooks up to my riding lawnmower. If there is enough friction to rotate the wheels of the spreader, they should work. If not, getting solid tires and driving some sheet metal screws into the tires might do the trick. I think I paid about $40 for the push one and $250 for the larger pull one.

I only salt the pad in front of the garage so I hand spread.

Typical seed/fertilizer spreaders like Scott's from Home Depot and such do not work for sand in winter. Been there, done that.
