Right now I'm using a torpedo heater, on K1 kero, for temp heat in my garage. Will it smell a lot worse if I start using #2 off road diesel ?

Yes it will be more stinky, how much will depend on your heater and nose.
Also the factor of if it is high sulfur it will stink a lot. I think most if not all offroad now is just onroad with a differnt dye though.

I run #2 in mine and really don't smell anything. I think it depends on the heater.

Yeah - same here. I'm running offroad in mine (a DESA I got from Lowes) and I really don't smell much at all.

Whats going to burn cleaner? I'd think it would be the kerosene, but burn what you want.

The torpedo heater I use in my garage has a tag that recommends K1 for fuel. It all depends on the nozzle and air mixture of your heater. Just like a home fuel oil furnace it will run on #1 or #2 and if you have the proper nozzle and air setting it will burn clean with little or no smell.

Thanx for the info.

I've got one of the newer Reddy heaters that says you can burn Kero, #2 or jet fuel. It burns a lot cleaner than an older one that I have that requires K1 only. The older heater finally died. No more spark. I'll try the #2. I run the house furnace and tractors on #2 also. Plus it's about 40 cents per gallon cheaper than kero 1.

I also have one of the new multi-fuel torpedos. I run it on the very same fuel that i put in my 2210, even has the powerservice in it. I have a 15gal tank that I fill from 5gal yellow jugs and then gravity feed through a fuel nozzle. fill the tractor and fill the heater. I'm in an uninsulated 24x36 machine shed, so fumes is the least of my worries in the winter!
