We brought our cows back to our place yesterday from a two week grazing stay in my neighbor's pasture across the County Road. Now, my wife loves to mow in our 5740C, and this neighbor's pasture hadn't been mowed yet this year at all. Since the cows had munched most of the grass, leaving mostly weeds, the wife saw the perfect opportunity to get some mowing in.
OK, now about a week ago, I noticed a dripping leak that turned out to be from one of the 4 FEL hydraulic lines just under the door on the right side. It was the second line in from the outside. After calling the dealer, I checked and couldn't see a bad gasket, so I cleaned off both the male and female sides and then hooked it back up. No leaks after that at all!!
Now, here's Momma mowing and that thing must have totally blown, because hydraulic fluid is shooting everywhere, and certainly onto the exhaust pipe. To her, it looks like the engine is blowing up or something, because the smoke from hydraulic fluid on the engine and tailpipe is very heavy. Also, hydraulic fluid is spraying all over the windshield, passenger's door glass, etc. She immediately shut of the motor, jumps out of the tractor and calls me on the cell phone in a panic! Of course, my first question was "How's my tractor"!! That made me no points at all!!
For those that own 5740C's and don't know it, the 5740C has ONE main resevior for hydraulic fluid for everything hydraulic. Since that leak was apparently spraying hydraulic fluid out pretty good, we lost ALL our hydraulic fluid for steering etc too.
Anyway, finally got the tractor home and now I'll be taking it to the dealer to have that coupling fixed since it's still under warranty!! Oh, and Momma is OK too!!! LOL!!
