The wind changed direction and wildfire smoke hit here about 10pm last night. No idea which fire it's coming from. There are many in this area. It's somewhat better now at 3:30 am Sat. Still unable to open the windows and pull in the cool night air. It's just a bummer.

We've had hazy skies off and on all summer from the Canadian fires in Northern Michigan. Jon

I hope it is far away from you and the wind changes again. You've had enough of that last year, iirc.

I'm hanging out with my wife in San Antonio. In the last 2 days we have each driven through smoke from grass fires along the road. (Interstate highways)

It has been dry, even for here apparently. Forecast has some rain for next week. It was 68 degrees when I left our place to head down here. 6 hours later it was 108 in SA.

The weather person said the smoke was going to get bad and it sure did. Last night it was so bad it smelled like I was burning my brush pile nearby. I'm glad I'm caught up with the outside work so I can stay inside.

Fortunately - I turned off the fans and closed up the windows last night. This morning the smoke hangs in - an evil haze. It's fine inside the house but a short venture outside and I'm coughing.

With the cool nighttime temps and zero breeze - we are stuck with what we have. At least, we aren't getting more.

As the sun rises - things will change. Hopefully - a breeze to blow this stuff away.

We just got socked in with smoke overnight. Fires from medical lake and elk washington have turned our normally blue sky morning solid orange. Like living on mars.

Assemble a Corsi-Rosenthal filter box. an Inexpensive box fan and 4 or 5 MERV13 filters taped together. Last bad smoke we had in our 1,000+ house we fired it up and the smoke smell was gone within a minute.

I have an IQAir unit in the house, so we dont smell the smoke indoors, and thankfully have HVAC. So today i wont go outdoors much.

I use fire now a fair bit to find smoke plumes;
and Purple Air to get detailed maps.

We love out Purple Air; it has kept us much healthier, and we now know that for us when it is over 50 we need N95 or P100 masks on to do outside chores. The device isn't cheap (we do have a cheap, in all senses of the word knockoff inside; 1st one lasted 14months), but it works well. Ours dates from 2015, and has been rock solid. Every couple of years, the readings will spike because a spider or something has moved in, but a brief blast of clean compressed air has it back to normal.

All the best,

Peter

Sunday - 4:30 am. Smoke conditions have improved outside. Still not something you want to experience all day. It's 59F at 4:40 am - outside, here.

A friend near Portland WA told me smoke was bad all day yesterday. Be careful out there.

Try to look at it on the bright side…..if you are a smoker, you don’t need to light up…..just walk outside and breathe!

My son in-law and daughter made one of those for their house because they have dogs and cats. Came in handy when the smoke came through where they live, too.

4 AM - Monday - the smoke is considerably less. I've opened the windows and pulling the night air thru the house. Rain is predicted from the far north reaches of the storm that will hit California. If it's 2", as predicted - I just hope it's over an extended time. We desperately need rain but not a flood.
