Smooth soled workk shoes

I was looking for the same sort of thing -- those lug soles carry a lot of dirt and mud and actually add a good bit of weight during the day. I went to an old general type store in Upton, PA and told the guy what I wanted. He had about six different kinds that, while not smooth, were designed to not pick up dirt. It was great to go to an old fashioned kind of place where they had stuff appreciated by real country folk. Plus you always get a serving of political commentary with every purchase.

I have worn a pair of red wing super soiled lace up work boots every day for about 5 yr, great boot and smooth so they don't track as much. (They are needing replaced sometime this year)

My mind doesn't work as quickly as it used to, but one of my best buddies in high school had parents who owned a shoe repair shop. I finally remembered the smooth sole back then was called a crepe sole. I Goggled crepe soles and it looks like LL Bean has a lace-up crepe sole moc boot that looks pretty comfortable, but may not be the greatest for work wear. The price is not over the top on these. I'm pretty sure any existing shoe shop can get you smooth crepe soles or semi-smooth. Redwing sells a work chukka and other crepe soles for around $250 that have shallow ribs.

I've been tempted to use a belt sander on "rough" soles to make them shed mud etc. Anyone tried that?

Check out BA Mason Shoes, they have several styles with smooth soles. That;s where I get mine at.

Home depot has been advertising a product called Rust-Oleum Never Wet. Watch the video on the HD site. I wonder if it would also work with mud.

The belt sander trick might be the ticket.

I became a Mason shoe dealer back in the 70' with hopes of getting good pair of boots at a discount. After sending two pair back, I gave up. I couldn't get them to fit. For that reason, I think I'd better buy locally.
