Smoothing out a pasture

   / Smoothing out a pasture #11
What are soil conditions like? Does the field ever get "soft" in the spring or after a rain storm? If it does then try rolling with a heavy roller. We made one out of an old underground 300 gal propane tank(approx 3000lbs when full of water). When the fields are soft in the spring we roll them and after soaking rain storms. Our soil is sandy with most of the rocks already removed. Slowly they are flattening out. It takes a while but after a few times over it it will start flattening out. That way you can save your grass.

Thanks for all of the advice. I think I am going to use parts from several posts and go this route. Fill in the ruts and holes as best I can and then go over the whole field with a blade, seed those areas as needed. AND do it again next year to get those spots I missed. Digging it up would be the right way to go but 'Beingthere' made a good point about the root/stump holes, every-time I fill one in two more appear or one gets bigger. This will be a work in progress. Thanks to all. T
