Hi all,

I have a covered wooden pavillion. I have a snake living under there. I'm going to guess others might live under there. I really have heard how "good" snakes are, but having a snake come out with guests over an a Sunday afternoon might not go over well. Also, I don't like them.

I am wondering what would make living here uncomfortable for the snakes. I have heard having cats would discourage snakes. Like cats, but don't want one. How about spreading lime or some other thing around under the pavillion? Snakes might not like lime and move out. Even oil or gas, would that help make snakes move. I know it's not good for earth, but I really don't like snakes. Anything to get rid of them. Need something to burn them a little and make feel unwelcome.

Cheers.....Coffeeman

Moth Balls will sometimes do the trick. Use plenty. I think they will keep the cats away to! :)

I concur on the moth balls, they will run even the guests off.

Hi John

I think I got a plan now. Spread the moth balls and get rid of snakes. On those evenings when the guests are staying too long; time to replenish the moth balls. Spread a new supply around.

I wonder if moth balls would discourage mosquitoes?

In my experience....no. They do, when fresh, deter snakes. The basis of the snake repellent the military uses in the desert is naptha or napthalene. Confuses the snake's sense of smell, and most snakes then retreat in fear.

Re: the mosquitoes, just began using Mosquito Barrier 2-1/2 weeks ago. So far it is making a believer out of us. Sprayed app. an acre around the house. Normally we are under siege by now (pond 200' away, woods 250'), and the front and back porch are "mosquitoless" so far.

Another thought, get a pet Mongoose.

"Snake-A-Way is the worlds only EPA approved, university tested, patented snake repellent"

I have seen it at WalMart and Lowes just this past weekend.

The active ingredient in moth balls is, Naptha. Moth balls just dissolve much quicker than snake repellant.
