Hey everyone,
So I would like to see if anyone could share their experiences with installing a more powerful engine on this unit. I just got it and have not had an opportunity to use it yet, but 4 HP sends a little anemic to me for a 2 stage snow blower. Who knows, maybe the thing is ****-hot, but still I want to see if upgrading to a 6.5 - 7.0 HP is plausible.
My biggest concern, aside from matching shaft size and bolt pattern is the durability of the gearbox. Yeah, they likely engineer some excess durability into it, but will it be able to handle a power increase of 50% over the long haul? One possibility, and maybe someone who has some history with this beans can chime in, is that Snapper, in an effort to leverage economies of scale used the same gearbox for all their snowblower models up to a certain HP. That would be ideal.
So any advice, cautionary tales, or "don't even think about it dummy!" comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
BN-MD
