Anyone have a recommendation for a really good quality snowblower?

really like the Provonost (ideally the xpro) but it unfortunetly is too large...anyone else know of any really nice and innovative ones that don't seem like they were made from scrap.

Oh yeah looking to run it on a Deere 4720 Cab Tractor

Thanks

Dave

Snowblowers are like rotary mowers - they are made in light, medium and heavy duty models, with corresponding differences in material thickness, gearbox rating, frame stiffness and price. In general you get what you pay for. The Canadians are generally more serious about snow - there are several brands - Normand, Pronovost, Meteor, Schulte,Couture, the list goes on. I think Pronovost's Puma line is available in smaller sizes and is a decent piece of work. I agree the XPro is a dandy.

Erskine makes a front mounted blower that runs off your rear PTO.

Skid Steer Attachments - Erskine Attachments, Inc.

I have a S65 JRW [Canadian] which is listed as a 78", but measures 79". It has a 26" diameter fan which is 8" deep. My 2240 isn't a hydro like your tractor, and I could use another lower gear sometimes when I get into the really deep drifted stuff. The JRW isn't the best built or most expensive unit out there, but works for me. The bigger the blower fan the better, that's the part that does all the work.

I would go erskine front mount, blowing snow in reverse is crazy!

The 59" JD front mounted blower works very well on our JD 3320 but in 18" snow we are at max throttle going uphill at 1 mph ground speed. The 4720 can power a larger blower but 59" is the largest front blower JD offers.

Front & rear wipers, worklights & heated cab make snow removal almost fun.

thanks guys...

I'm leaning towards the Provonost Puma right now about a 72"...quality looks good and the options are nice...XPRO is awesome but too heavy for my machine...class 2 etc...by the way an XPro is about $10K! too!

Erskine are nice but the front hitch blowers are way expensive...almost $9k...I have been quoted...too much for something that will not get that much constant use.

Going in reverse is a pain but its only for the big storms and then you go real slow regardless...anything under 6 inches isn't worth using a blower...I just use my woods 84" rear blade.

Anymore thoughts out there!

I find that once my tractor is set up for winter - 7' blower mounted , tire chains on, "cab" unrolled - it stays that way until March. I use the blower for any amount of snow, small or big. One nice feature of blowing snow is it doesn't build up a snowbank - the snow gets handled only once. If the tractor's operator station is roomy, a back-up blower is easy to operate side-saddle. Some pics of my rig in this thread .

I agree, blowing backwards isn't much different to using most other rear mounted implements, IF you have a larger framed tractor with some operator room. Granted, blowing forward would be nicer, and when I get into my upper 70's, I might think about getting one, even with a cab! Most of the front mounted blowers, even with their higher mid-mount PTO rpms', have smaller blower fans, and can't be compaired to a rear mount blower in the amount of snow they can throw. Nice pics !!!

I have a Puma 64" on a NH1320. Got it in 2000 or so. Got to go slow at around 8" but I make one cut and then plow with a snow plow on the front .
Just this year I converted the chute rotation to hydraulic. Got tired of cranking all the way around to turn the handle. I posted some pictures of that else where. Anyway the blower is great. Backwards in a pain but $1500 vs $5500 but the real issue is I like to keep the FEL flexible I have had a QA onit since '96 and I would not put anything on the front that takes more than 30 sec to change.

Puma are nice snowblowers but for the same price you can get Blizzard snowblowers that are built stronger and have more snow removable capacity.

personaly, I prefer the blizzard for the cost/performace/durability ratio.
