JD1025r
I have been looking at a JD1025r to take to Colorado Mtns and do work and snow removal at my cabin at 9000 ft ele...Today I was told that the 1025r probably would not work well at that altitude and that I would need to have a tractor with a turbocharger...now we're looking at JD3036e which is alot more money....Do any of you have knowledge on this situation????

At higher elevation you pretty much need a turbocharged engine. A naturally aspirated motor will lose about 30% of it's power @ 9000 ft.

(HP X Altitude [in feet] / 1,000 X 0.03 - HP)

Interesting. Are gasoline engines the same way?

Yup. Fewer oxygen molecules per volume of air.

I knew you had to reject carbs, but I never thought there was less hp after that was done.

Sorry for the hijacking....

Yep, the air isn't as dense so there isn't as much oxygen per volume of air as sea level. A turbo can cram a greater volume of air into the intake than naturally aspirated can suck in so you get more oxygenation for combustion with a turbo.
