With the emphasis on the "no" in snow! I went out a limb yesterday and removed my tire chains from my 'Bota B7500 for the season. Hopefully I haven't invited Mother Nature to strike hard like she just did in NH, VT, and ME. Anyone else in the northern latitudes feeling this brave (or lucky)?

I wouldn't call RI northern, and I certainly wouldn't get ready for spring yet. Officially it is 1 month away. Doesn't March come in like a lion and out like a lamb.

Our weatherman said we are about 2/3 of the way through our snowfall for the season, historically, with a little more than 210" so far. I had to snowblow about a foot yesterday. I have this rule of thumb, when the snow completely leaves my driveway, and it is dry then I get this out:

Well...RI is part of New England (granted, in the southern part), and it isn't part of the mid-Atlantic states region, it is not out of the question for us to receive 12"-20" of snow in one storm, up to 2 weeks of near zero degree temps every winter, and our frostline for safely putting in posts/footings is at least 36". I understand you are further north, but I for one, will still group RI in with the northern states. I understand our weather is not as brutal as some regions, but that has as much to do with our proximity to the ocean as it does to our latitude.

I put the jinx on myself .I was looking at the thread About pics on moving snow and made a comment in a thread about living in the NE. for 20 yrs. and not having to put up with that white crap any more Welp sure enough that eve. we got I mean pounded with a hail storm Solid 10 Min. the smallest size of golf balls to cue ball size.It sounded like a war zone!I've been in a few hail storms down here but nothing even compared to this one.Thank goodness the only damage was the lenses on my security lights were Knocked out.I guess that was ole mother nature letting me know who the boss.No B/S.

I'd keep your chains handy,I don't think old man winter not done w/us...still have sugar snow storm yet.
I'll run chains until mud season over...last half of April.

Not a chance winter is done with us yet. March is always a winter month here. Always expect at least one big snow in March and maybe two or three. And then there is mud season. I'd be nuts to take the chains off before May and maybe not then.

New England is happy to accept RI as a northern state although perhaps not the most aflicted with winter. However they do shelter us from huricanes.

You guys are making me feel sad and shorted. We had a nice 24"snow fall five years ago. so I bought myself a new tractor 2210 with snow blower and haven't had over 6" since then. This year 3" has ben the max.
