The black box is a cushion or pressure relief valve. In case the blade is angled and you hit something hard, the pressure will be released and allow the blade to turn so you don't bend or break something. Many people hear said to install one so I did. I used 2 single acting cylinders (Meyers) but a single double acting cylinder would also work.
A single DA cylinder will indeed work to angle the plow. However it will not work with a Crossover relief valve.
So to the OP, if this is a SS plow already assembled and ready to roll, does it have a single cylinder? or a pair of SA cylinders? If it is a single cylinder, it is probably made by design with a fairly large bore to limit pressure spikes in the hoses. Kinda like a rear blade with power angle uses some pretty large diameter cylinders.
If it has a pair of SA cylinders, I would add a CRV if it dont have one.
