I took a vacation day today because I had 30" of compressed snow on the roof and another 27" in the forecast. Spent the entire day shoveling snow from the shop roof, the breezeway, the house...and tomorrow I have to do the garage! I actually slipped and fell off the roof, but my 12' fall ended in a snowbank so I only hurt my pride...and was immediately covered by my four golden retrievers who were sure that Dad laying in the snow was proof he wanted to play! The other bright spot was the snow was so deep the dogs were able to walk right up and join me on the roof!

Anyway, as Clementine and I were removing all that snow from the driveway bucket by bucket, it occured to me that I'd buy a snowblower in a heartbeat if they were detachable and could climb walls like those little swimming pool cleaners. Imagine how nice it would be to engage the PTO and sit back while the little blower crawled all over the place blowing snow off everything it came across.

No, I'm not sober. All those aching muscles demanded relief. I broke out the champagne an hour ago. Still, it was a nice thought, wasn't it..? /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Nice thought Pete!!!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Just reading TBN and having a cold one. Listening to a little Roy Orbison to boot. Thinking about a snowblower next year if we have another winter like this.
Careful on those roofs!!!!
Take care,Al

Pete,I don't know whether to admire or pity you folks that live in the part of the country that you do.I do know one thing, this has been a winter to tell the grandkids about, thats for sure.Good luck with your endeavers on dealing with the snow load.A sure sign that Spring is close, had a couple of bugs splatter my windshield today, can't be too far off.

Wow, I can't even imagine!! We may get a lot of snow (well, heck, we think it's a lot /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif) during the whole winter, but I can't remember ever seeing more than a couple of inches at a time stay on the roof for very long. And I always thought that people talking about having the roof collapse fromt the weight of the snow were just pulling my leg! /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Hope you got another bottle handy, for old man winter ain't done yet. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Sure wish I had put a metal roof on my house when I built it,but than again I would have to post signs on the walk way etc..saying "Warning Avalanches" after this strange winter.

Now would be a good time to run that snowblower again by your wife..hint..hint..for you have the proof. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Have a pleasant day over there.

Boondox thinking about the ideal snow removal equipment and the bottle of champangne a few years ago Kubota built a remote control mower. Diesel power, hydro and a choice of steering. Would have been a bit to mount a anowblower but most all is possible today. On the roofs around here we sell a lot of small snowblowers to eliminate the hand shoveling. It is interesting that I could go out snowmobiling last nite at the end of March and not have to worry about running out of snow! Looks like we will be riding in April what a thought!

Mark -- I had to leave town on business last January during a big storm, and by the time I returned there was so much snow on the roof I decided to wait for the next thaw. Only the thaw never came! Still, it wasn't till I started seeing other folks' barns and garages collapse that I decided to take action.

I'm sitting at my desk right now, gazing out at the snow piled 1/3 of the way up the window. If I want to see the road I have to stand up to peer over the snowbank!

Aaah, what a difference a few miles makes. I've just been out looking around at how the trees are greening up, the yard in dire need of mowing (if it stays dry a few days), the turnips (planted 8 days ago) have sprouted, and the little plums are bigger than a match head now; looks like a good crop this year, if those blasted mockingbirds and blue jays would just leave them alone.
