Re: Snowblower powered by tractor\'s onboard hydraulics

Hydraulic motor formulas:

Torque (in*lbs) = (PSI) * (Displacement (in^3/rev))
(2 * pi)

HP = Torque (inch*lbs)*RPM)
63025

RPM = (231*GPM)
Displacement of motor in^3 per revolution

Displacement of motor in^3 per revolution = (231*GPM)
RPM

HP = gpm*psi
1714

All the lines were erased when I copy/pasted this. Each equation has the numerator as the first line, the denominator as the second.

Hydraulic Supermarket Technical pages have a wealth of information.

Re: Snowblower powered by tractor\'s onboard hydraulics

I checked into this a few years back. I also checked into a brush/broom to fit on my loader. In both instances I ran into a glitch as there is great concern for heat. Now with the snow blower and cold weather maybe not a concern, but I would still take it into my thinking or decision. Our coolers on our tractors just aren't big enough for moving that much oil.

OK, I agree in theory, 90% at the moter times 90% at the pump is closer to 80%. Throw in some control valves, some hoses, an oil cooler, and a filter, and you go down a bit more from that. Size the hoses right, and they are not a big factor. Use a large enough filter, and high enough flow valves, and they are not an issue either. (maybe no valves in this applicaiton - just start and stop the PTO).

My 60% for the entire system is a very conservative number that should be easy to hit.

" ... A reservoir is connected to the 3 point hitch. Usually a reservoir the size of the GPM rating of the pump is used but a larger reservoir helps to dissipate heat. ..."

For a continuous duty applicaiton with just a pump and a motor, you might be better off with an oil cooler and fan vs. the larger tank and the fluid to fill it.
