Snowblower snowblower ?

There are around 40 past and present snowblower brands. Never heard of a brand to be avoided. They don't really get many hours of use. If built well enough to work, they tend to last.

Maybe people will chime in about why they like a particular brand. The thing is that rear-mount-back-up blowers have very similar design. They tend to use standard industrial ag gearboxes, bearings, couplings, roller chain, etc. If you want certain features like hydraulic chute and/or deflector some brands offer them and some don't. But for the basic function of moving snow they are surprisingly alike. Classic case of a simple product that's labor-intensive, low-tech, low-volume, low margin and heavy to handle and ship. Comes down to price and local availability. Brand comes into it with special configuration - like front-mount-rear pto-driven (Erskine) or bi-directional (Pronovost)

The brands we see the most around are Normand and Pronovost...maybe because they are built here.
Like rbargeron mentionned they are similar in many respects, not that wide a range of quality as in a fancy equipment such as a tractor say.

I have a Kubota BX2350 with a 48" 3ph Loftness, a unit that was new about 1993, that I bought last spring. This thing is built like a tank. It is simple, well designed. If you find a used one and it has had any care at all, go for it.
The local Kubota Dealer here in Northern New York State carries Smyth, a well-made unit built in Canada. They sell a ton of them.

I've had an agro trend for 10+ years. It's a very well built unit. I have an 800' driveway and live in the snow belt of central NY. It's seen a lot of use, without a single issue.

I think rbargeron is probably right, I think they all work pretty well. I personally have a Farm King (Buhler now owns them). Seems to be a pretty stout little blower (mine is only a 50" one). Not too familiar with the other brands out there.
I would recommend looking more at which one fits what you want/need best. For instance, if you get one with manual chute rotation, who's got a handle/crank that is in a good location, or can be adjusted? Or, is it quick coupler compatible, etc?

I spent months researching and came down to two brands Pronovost and Loftness. I decided upon the Loftness, and I am very satisfied with the purchase. It is a 7 footer, built like a tank, weighs almost 1200 lbs.
The fan diameter is 27 inches and the auger is 16 inches.
It requires a minimum of 40 hp and up to 120 hp.

I have owned both Lucknow and Woods, and prefer the woods due the fact it came with skid shoes, but both blowers work fine. I do have to say, I used to snap shear pins with the Lucknow, and in three years never snapped one with the Woods???
