Snowblowers on gravel roads?

Wheels would work well on the gravel road. I beat this thing all Winter with zero issues.

I like that wheel set up!! Wheels would be much better than the skids my blower has - they will dig up gravel if I don't have a good base of ice/packed snow.

You have a great set up.

Make yourself longer and wider skids. Like 2-21/2" X 10" and you will solve your gravel problems. (on ,say, 5-6" blower, wider & longer if your blower is, say, 8')

These skids have helped me - replaced as the old ones broke at the front.

I wrote the sticky thread, "Snowblowing rules of thumb" at the beginning of this forum. I have a partial gravel driveway. The guys before me said it all, really. We get 15 to 30 feet of snow each year and it rarely gets above freezing between December and March. My skid pads are the way the blower came from the factory. If we had a lot of thawing where the snow were to come and go, I would probably need to make skid pad adjustments as some have indicated. Many of us as you can see have been snowblowing on gravel for a long time without undue wear and tear on our blower.

Here is a movie of my blower in action on my gravel driveway and you will not seen any gravel:

I had alot of trouble with gravel and my snowblower. The ground would thaw just in time for the snow. So I made longitudinal cut of schedule 40 3 " pipe. I removed the cutting edge of the snowblower and replaced with the pipe. Instead of digging into the gravel, the curved edge rolls over the stone, sand, gravel etc. It'll wear out but I still have the other half of the pipe ready.

I was worried with no caster device built into my wheels that I would roll the tires off the rim beads but with smooth tread and snow they simply slide sideways.

It's a MK Martin Meteor SB75 inch. It does not throw snow over 25-30 feet though. Needs a Fred mod of some type or another.
Another project for another day.
