I tried it out today and love it.

While I don't go any faster going forward while blowing, it's awesome to back up at max speed, as well as going forward faster during repositioning.

I never felt short on power - is there any reason to not do this?

probably not in your case since you have 2 range tranny, with the 3 range on mine i get a quicker reverse in the medium range unless i am going quite a ways, the higher gearing just requires a gentler touch or it can bog a bit.
