So how to I remove this mower from my tractor?

Hello!
So I am a complete newbie to not only this forum but tractors in general, and they don't teach a lot about tractor maintence, let alone small engine maintence to girls.

So I bought my very first tractor a couple weeks ago. It's a late 70's Kubota B7100. It came with a front loader, a rear mower and a back blade. I would very much like to laydown some gravel in my horses turn outs this coming weekend and I would love to use the back blade. Unfortunatly the mower was hooked up when I got it and I have no idea how to get it off.

I've searched YouTube for videos about disconnecting shafts from the PTO and all about the three point hitches and while I can identify things I don't actually know how to get this thing off. I know which lever lifts and lowers it off of the ground, and I know where the pin is I need to pinch to unlock it from the PTO, but I have no idea how to get it off of the 3-point harness.

I appologize for the quality of the pictures, I was racing the sun. Also yes thats moss growing on top of the mower, in Seattle it grows everywhere.

So in the picture below I've remove the top lifting arm, but the two side harness arm-things, I remove those pins but then what? The arms don't flap loosely, so how do I disconnect it from the mower? Is there a lever I'm missing that can adjust the left and right arm-hitch things?

I swear I'm not dumb, I'm just really new to this.

Loosen those turn buckles on the inside of the lower arms. They will allow the lower arms to swing outward and slide off the ends of the pins on the mower. There is probably a hairpin clip through one of the theaded parts on the turn buckles you will need to remove them.

I looked at the picture again. You can unscrew the pin on one of the clevises on the end of the turn buckle and remove it also.

I think I understand what you are asking. Once you remove the pins securing the mower to the lift arms loosen the 2 turn buckles that will allow the lift arms to be pushed outward. Depending if you have weight on the lift arms you might need to kick the arms off the lift pins.

Well i'll try and help. First thing I see is lack of oil. Not your fault, just something I get crazy about. The ball ends on the lift arms along with the center top link need a shot of WD-40 or the likes every once in a while.

Being things are under oiled, it's going to take a little extra effort to get things apart.

Lets start with the PTO shaft. On the tractor end, push that button in - it should go almost flush when pushed all the way in. Then shake, shake shake, pull, pull, pull, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle pulling towards the mower all the time.

Hammer, hammer, hammer, pry, pry, pry, it's got to go.

OK, thats off. Next are the lower links. Squirt some WD all over the pins and clips. Remove the spring clips. It looks like the "sway" chains are pretty tight. You might have to turn the "turn buckles" to lengthen the chains to to get the bars off the mower.

It looks like the left one might be easiest to get to turn. Again some WD might help. Once you get one off, slide the mower over to get the other one off.

Some maintaince might be needed on that PTO shaft if it didn't slide easy. They do come apart by pulling on them. If you can get it apart, spray WD all over the smaller shaft. Remember they are "keyed", only goes back together in one certain position. Spray in side the yoke splines also.

Looks like you just need to back off the turnbuckles and they should slacken to were you can slide off the arms

Welcome, In your pic. the two turn buckles from center of tractor to inside of lift arm, should have a small pin in center of the turn buckle , remove spray with some wd-40 or lube this may help , then using a wrench turn each turn buckle so it loosens up ( one way tightens other way loosens ) remove pins off sides of mower pins then the lift arms should slide off to the out side ( may need to tap with a rubber mallet, careful the lift arms may drop down some .. Reverse to but the box blade on . To remove pto shaft the 1/2 '' pin pushes in ( may also need wd-40 / lube ) hold in and slide pto shaft back off the pto , reinstall top / center link to the tractor and the other end will mount to the box blade . Remember after changing implements always tighten the turn buckles evenly or the lift arms will move left or right and possibly hit the tire !! Hope this helps .:thumbsup:

From your pics getting the buckles loose may be difficult. They are bad to rust and freeze. If they don't want to move spray down with wd40 or other oil and let sit for a bit. They may need a few treatments. It will be worth your time to take them off the tractor and scale off all the rust on the threads with a wire brush and oil down good. Just did mine and they work like new. Put oil on them on a regular basis. This will help prevent the rust from coming back.

One minor point. When disconnecting my 4-wheeled rear finish mower I sometimes loosen only one side. After sliding the loose arm off the pin I shift the deck in that direction and the other arm slides off.

You sirs are gentlemen and scholars!! Sure enough I twisted the turn buckle until it came loose and pulled back on the pto shaft while I pressed the button and everything came off!

So now to oil or grease my parts you mentioned. Is WD-40 enough or is there a specific type of grease I should use?
