We have several places where I would like to have a security light....motion sensitive, just to disturb anyone attempting to enter the area....but running electric to those places is simply not practical. I have found several such lights online that are solar powered. Some have leds, some relatively small halogen bulbs (150w) and one with a 10w quartz bulb (rated 600 lumens). I love leds, but am pretty convinced they are not bright enough for this purpose. A 150w Halogen probably is, and I have no clue what a 10w quartz bulb can do, nor what 600 lumens looks like.

I would appreciate any input from those who A. can shed some light:p on the bulb types, lumens, etc. mentioned above, and B. who have any first hand experience (or even close second hand) with this type of light. Thanks to all for any information.

PS--if anyone ever wants info on hand-held leds, we own app. 30 total of 5-6 different varieties. Just ask.:)

I can't help you much here, but looking on my package of 60 watt incadecent light bulbs, it says they are rated at 840 lumens. I don't have any 40 watt bulbs to check for rated lumens, but suspect 40 watt bulbs should give you an idea of 600 lumens.

Last year I put up two such lights from Lowes as a quick fix in our parking area. I believe these are Regent brand $68 each but I don't remember the wattage, they don't have halogen bulbs. One failed after two months but the other is going strong except for periods of a week plus of severe overcast. I think the light is strong enough for security but I won't buy them again with the 50% success I've experienced. Harbor freight is selling one similar to the ones I have for around $40.
